zeds dead, baby

This is the part where I tell you about what you should already know. I watch movies. Review them. Put them here.

I’m Here by Spike Jonze

A 30 min short film from Spike Jonze. For those that dont know. Spike Jonze is a serious heavyweight when it comes to cinema. He doesnt have the glam or flare of greats like Peter Jackson or Nolan. But he is a damn good writer/director and anyone who knows anything about movies knows this.
This short film (which is linked above in its entirety) is a robot love story that is loosely based of the of the childrens book, the giving tree. Whats amazing is you start to wonder about what kind of world these robots live in. How they are treated. How society sees them. It gets very animatrix-ey at a few points.

Jonze weaves the storytelling into the narrative instead of shoving the backstory and key elements in your face. He shows you a world in which robots and humans are both self aware and independent of each other, and robots are still second class citizens. And you believe it.

But wash away the brilliant world Jonze has written and you find a darling love story between two machines. Its one of the sweetest tales ever told (you know what I’m talking about if you’ve read The Giving Tree) and it will leave you wanting more than just these 30 short minutes.

If you haven’t seen Ferris Buellers Day Off. Finish this review and go watch it any way you can. This is an example of a perfect teen movie that doesn’t need to be vulgar to be hilarious. Mathew Brodericks character (Ferris) skips school. Thats the plot. Its pretty simple. Everyone is trying to prove that hes a liar and skipping and if they’re not out to prove hes guilty they’re trying save his life by raising money for his “new kidney.” Isn’t that nice? This is a feel good movie that really makes you want to just take a day off and run around the city with your best friends making the most you can out of life. Broderick does a amazing job as Ferris, and he breaks the 4th wall throughout the entire movie, which is just amazing. In summary, if you haven’t seen this movie, you need to. I can’t think of a person that wouldn’t find some enjoyment out of this 80’s classic. Fun Filled Adventure 10/10

Fun Filled Adventure 10/10

This movie will hit you hard if you’ve ever thought about killing yourself. Which most of us have, lets face it. The movie revolves around the character Craig. He is your average depressed teen with serious self confidence issues. He checks himself into a hospital psych ward because hes afraid hes going to kill himself. He instantly regrets this choice. But he has to stay there for 5 days minimum.
In those 5 days he has more self discovery than most of us have in years. This is a movie made for the lost people that are only living their lives for those around us. The same people that go to college and get a degree because people tell us to. The main reason Craig wants to kill himself is because he feels so pushed to get into a summer school program that he learns he doesnt even really want to be in.
So bottom line, if you’re feeling lost in your life. You don’t know where you’re going or how to get there. This movie probably wont help you figure yourself out. But it might show you that there are others who have the same problems you do.

Lola gets an unexpected call from her boyfriend who is in a panic, hes lost 100,000 marks and if he doesn’t get it back in 20 mins hes dead.
Here’s a damn fine example of the fine line between a movie, and an artistic masterpiece. This movie kept the action going without seeming repetitive and boring. Hell, this movie repeated its own story a few times without being repetitive. The movie was stylistically amazing, shot with utter care and acted beautifully. I believed what I was seeing could be actually happening. It was far fetched, without being so far fetched that the audience couldn’t relate.
Most of what you’ll remember though, comes from how Lola affects the environment around her. This movie shows how even the tiniest of actions can have a massive effect on the world around them.More american films should be like this fast paced action existentialist thriller.

I Saw the Devil was a damn good Korean revenge movie. But it’s not your normal revenge movie. Yes, the main characters wife gets murdered in cold blood by this doochebag sociopath, and yes our protagonist is a special agent that kicks some serious ass. But this badass motherfucker takes it to a whole new level. I dont want to spoil anything, just know that when Kim Soo-Hyeon gets revenge he really doesnt take any prisoners.
Id mark this off as a well shot, well acted, and well directed movie. It didn’t amaze me with visuals. But it did make me cringe in some scenes. There’s one scene where one of the bad guys gets his face ripped in half at the cheeks. I cringed. If you don’t like the more realistic gore Id stay away from this one.
Bottom Line: If you are in the mood for a good revenge movie look no further. I Saw the Devil will satisfy your itch twice over.
